Equality & Nixburg News
Jennifer Williamson
My grandson had a runny nose. His mom said it was from the cold weather and just asked us to keep him warm while we watched him so he wouldn’t get chilled again. Well doesn’t seem to just be a runny nose since I now have a sinus infection. No fever or anything, just really inflamed sinus cavities, drainage both from my nose and down my throat (ew, I know, gross).
So, we survived our cold snap without my new stove installed, but really hope it gets installed soon so that I don’t have to go through the whole winter without it. I need it since the power bill went up again and is just making life unaffordable right now. The whole point of purchasing this stove was to lower our bills heating the house in the winter.
Events and activities in the area include:
The Equality Volunteer Fire Department (EVFD) is still looking for more volunteers to support their efforts in keeping us all safe. They need as much involvement as they can get so again, please come and support your community by volunteering your time at a great organization. Also, you are free to join the training on the first and third Mondays at 6:30 p.m. even if just to watch and find out more about what EVFD has going on.
Coosa County Live has live music tonight, Friday, October 25, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. While it is not mandatory, you are encouraged to bring a dish of shareable food for our “Potluck,” and if you can afford to drop something into the donation jar for the music, it helps keep the lights on. Coosa Live provides free coffee, iced tea, water, and fresh-popped popcorn, as well as some of the potluck offerings.
Equality Volunteer Fire Department sponsored Bingo is on the last Saturday of each month, this month being held on October 26 at 4 p.m. The cards are $1 each, and all proceeds go to support our volunteer fire department, so come out for a fun evening while helping the community.
Don’t forget Equality Volunteer Fire Department’s first Saturday is just around the corner on Saturday, November 2, so any baked goods and volunteers are appreciated. Come at 8 a.m. for breakfast, bake sale and rummage sale, and return at 11 a.m. for lunch plates. This event is not just a great way to support our volunteer fire department, but also a great opportunity to stay connected with the community with food and fellowship.
Also in November will be an open house and housewarming I am sure the community will enjoy. Details coming soon.
I depend upon my readers to share with me what is happening within your organizations, churches, neighborhoods, groups, or family to share in next week’s column. Please contact me; leave a voice message or text 256-531-6460 or email at coosacafe@gmail.com.
