Richville Rundown
Sheila Ward
Hope everyone has enjoyed our fall weather. I have! Listening to the weather people, we are in for a dry October which could shorten the leaf color season. According to what I’m hearing, this might be the driest October in 100 years. So, be careful if you have a fire outside!
The Coosa County Historical Society will meet on Sunday, October 27, at 2 p.m. at the Rockford Senior Center. We will have a “Show and Tell” program. It can be anything related to Coosa County or of a historical nature, including stories. Each presenter will have about five minutes depending on how many are sharing. There will be door prizes, also. Refreshments will be furnished by members. Everyone is welcome to attend. So, make plans to come, share with the group, contribute a door prize, or just enjoy the time, but please come.
The next Richville Volunteer Fire Department Bingo will be on Saturday, November 2, at 6:30 p.m. Mark your calendar and make plans to attend.
Sardis Baptist Church will have their Fall Festival on Sunday, October 27, beginning at 4 p.m. They will have games, food, cake walks, and hayrides. This is a free event with fun for every age. All are welcome.
My Bible verses this week are about witnessing. Matthew 28: 19-20 reads, “Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
These verses are often called the “Great Commission” because Jesus is sending His disciples out into the world to do what? Make more disciples. Jesus is telling His disciples to go out and spread the Word about salvation. It applies to us, also.
We as believers are to tell others about Jesus, witnessing to them. Nowhere does it say a specific nation or people, but it says “all nations.”
There are three ways you can fulfill Jesus’ command: prayer, volunteering and giving. We all don’t have the ability to preach or are called to the ministry, but we can pray and give our monies to promote God’s Word. Prayers require no special training or monies. So pray because it makes a difference. Volunteering doesn’t have to be going overseas or even outside your location. There are many opportunities right where you are to volunteer to help in the church or with mission projects. Then, there is giving. You can make a great impact with any gift of any size to your local church and its ministry programs. So, don’t sit back and say “I can’t witness” because there are many ways besides going out to other countries.
Please be in prayer for all those that are sick in our community. But also, think about giving someone a call just to say hello; it will make a difference in their day. Many times, when we go out to spread blessings to others, it’s us that gets the blessing.
