What a beautiful time of year, fall colors, festivals, decorations, oh my! Which leads me to: Whatever happened to the Yard of the Month? That positively competitive source of community pride seems to have gone by the wayside.
Now we get nasty letters from Town Hall warning about rats and snakes. Pictures of our weeds. Is your grass a little too tall? Don’t worry, Town Hall will send you a reminder to cut it. Sometimes they even put copies of the town’s nuisance ordinance in with their missives.
Lots of people get these letters. I wonder if any other town business can get done; they must be so busy!
Do they write letters to the owners of falling down buildings, houses in disrepair, piles of building debris? If so, why do such messes persist around town?
Get out, enjoy the scenery and the fall decorations. Many folks in town take great care of their yards. Maybe I will fly over with a few of my own commemorative signs.
I love fall; I love Rockford.
