After being closed for six years, Coosa County finally has a health department once more, shedding its status as the only county in the state to not have a health department.
This week the Alabama Department of Public Health announced the reopening of the Coosa County Health Department, located at 9518-B U.S. Highway 231 in Rockford. This is where the department was located prior to shutting its doors on September 30, 2016, and the department will now share the building space with Accordia Health.
Services available at the Coosa County Health Department include vital records, WIC, nursing, and environmental services.
Nursing services; including immunizations, family planning and STD; are also available by appointment. Appointments are suggested, but are not required to receive service.
In addition to these services, certified copies of birth, death, marriage, and divorce certificates may also be obtained from the Coosa County Health Department.
The health department’s telephone number is 256-377-1068.
Operating hours are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The office is closed for lunch between noon and 1 p.m.
Those interested in keeping up with the department and informational news can also follow the Coosa County Health Department on Facebook.
