As fundraising continues to prove successful, the Coosa County Animal Shelter is now accepting donated supplies, as well as services, to help prepare for the eventual opening of the shelter in Stewartville.
The shelter has received some donated appliances and other items already, but more are still needed.
The shelter Board of Directors is seeking the following items to be donated: two refrigerators, a microwave, white interior paint, washer and dryer, sign, fans, non-fluorescent lighting, kennels, outside chain-link fencing, wall unit air conditioners, 55-gallon plastic drums, storage cabinets, push lawnmower, a Shop-Vac or wet/dry vacuum, and miscellaneous supplies.
Anything donated must be in working order, and all appliances will need to be electric, as well.
In addition to accepting these donated items, the shelter will also be accepting donations of materials, time and labor for repairs and service work for the shelter facility. Some of those areas of service work include roofing with metal, flooring, electrical work, plumbing, and painting.
Anyone who has these “wish list” items to donate or who is willing to volunteer to work in the aforementioned areas to help get the shelter ready to open is asked to text the shelter at 256-391-7192.
Additionally, to help raise funds for the shelter, the board is having a “draw down” raffle with proceeds raised being given to the Coosa County Animal Shelter.
The event will be a $5,000 draw down, based on 200 raffle tickets being sold. In a draw down raffle, the last ticket drawn is the one that wins the grand prize, which for this event would be $5,000.
In addition to the grand prize, there will be prizes given away for every twenty-fifth ticket drawn during the event.
Tickets for the draw down raffle are $99 each, which includes a hamburger and hot dog dinner for two with each purchase. The raffle will be held at 6 p.m. August 27 at the Weogufka school gymnasium, and individuals do not have to be present to win.
Raffle tickets are available for purchase at “The Coosa County News” office, and those interested in purchasing tickets can also call or text 256-391-7192. Tickets were also sold last Saturday during an event at PetSense in Sylacauga.
