A Stewartville man was arrested last Tuesday on sodomy and sexual abuse charges following incidents that reportedly occurred in the Stewartville community.
According to Sheriff Michael Howell, the Sheriff’s Office was made aware of allegations and worked with the Coosa County Department of Human Resources to investigate the case.
An interview was conducted with the child victim. Based on the allegations and evidence, 28-year-old Kevin George Polk Jr. was arrested on June 28.
He was charged with first-degree sodomy and two counts of sexual abuse of a child less than 12 years old. Per the Code of Alabama, sodomy in the first degree is a Class A felony and occurs under three conditions, including if a person 16 years old or older engages in sodomy with a person who is less than 12 years old.
Polk’s total bond was set at $100,000, which includes $50,000 for the sodomy charge and $25,000 each for the sexual abuse charges. As of press time he remained in custody at the Coosa County Jail awaiting trial.
