Edmund W. Pettus Camp #574, Sons of Confederate Veterans, recently awarded the $500 2022 Edward Porter Alexander Memorial Scholarship to Audrey Owens of Benjamin Russell High School.
Area high school seniors were asked to write an essay about contributions of “Hispanic Confederates” during the War for Southern Independence.
The paper could include Tejanos, Cubans, Mexicans, South Americans, or any other “Hispanic” group that supported the South. Audrey put together an impressive essay covering a largely overlooked topic.
Members of the Pettus Camp wish the greatest of success to Audrey as she continues her educational pursuits at Auburn University and thank her for the effort put forth in writing a quality essay.
