Moms always know

 

The Union Square Neighborhood Watch meeting was short and sweet and also watchful. President Steve and Jean Baker were on vacation. They made us aware months ago.

President Baker and his wife, Jean, are two great people, dedicated to their job in the Square, and they love working with everyone. We love them and what they do for us. They deserve a vacation. We hope they are enjoying every bit of it.

Vice President Sherry Shaw filled in for Steve and did a wonderful job. Johnny Schmidt led us in a perfect prayer that was so fulfilling. We need more men to come to the meetings and help this community to grow and stay safe.

Men are the ones to bring grace and peace to a home and not just to say “I am the man. I am the boss.” When you can bring peace in the home, you are the man; you are the boss. See, Jesus is peace, and we can see that in Mr. Johnny Schmidt.

No sheriff report was available. However, our former and faithful Sheriff Terry Wilson was available and always brings us joy. Just him being there is a good report.

Ms. Susan Rogers won the door prize.

Our next meeting is July 11; make notice, the second Monday instead of the first because of the Fourth of July. We will eat and greet at that meeting, a late Fourth of July celebration.

We must be careful when we criticize addictions; drug, alcohol, etc.; because we can be addicted to many things ourselves while we are criticizing others.

I myself am addicted to ice cream and the love of my life, Butch, who celebrates his birthday today, June 10. Happy birthday, dear; I wish you many more blessed ones.

Seriously I am addicted to ice cream and sweets. I have given up ice cream for months, and it was hard.

Now I’ve made up my mind to give up sweets, period, and it is so hard for me. My boys tell me I am a fussy person; well I am really fussy now.

I need a lot of prayer. Please pray for me. If my boys were in Alabama they would make fun of me fussing, reminding me of when they were young, when they were small.

I could hear them in their room, playing and talking loud as I tried to sleep. I would get up, rush to their room and open the door. Their heads were all covered, quiet like they were asleep. I’d start fussing, “Get up; y’all not sleeping. I heard you all.” They would throw the covers off and would laugh so hard. One would tell the other, “I knew she was going to fuss.”

They teased me today about that. “Ma, do you remember how we would try to fool you?”

Kids are something else, thinking moms don’t know them.

Karem loves to watch TV. Whenever he was on punishment, I would take the TV from him. One day I left him home to go shopping. I told him, “Don’t turn the TV on.”

When I got home, he was sitting, reading a little book. I asked him did he turn on the TV. “No, Ma.”

I touched the TV, and it was so hot. I took it from him for a week for lying. He said to Bernard, “I wonder how Ma knew I was watching TV.”

I told him how I knew. They laughed again. Karem tells everybody, “You can’t fool my mom.”
