The Coosa County Training School/J. D. Thompson High Alumni Association invites you to join us on June 11, from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. for a day filled with safe and fun activities for all age groups.
All activities will take place at the white elementary building located at 1854 Coosa County Road 93, Cottage Grove/Hissop.
This is the perfect time for a tour of the elementary school building where guests will see the renovations that were made during the COVID-19 shutdown. The classroom walls have been updated with additional historic information; also you may be able to view the old class performance and attendance records of some of your ancestors.
The day will start with a Fun Run and Walk-A-Thon. Registration will begin at 7:30 a.m., and the fee is $10. The 1.1-mile walk will begin at 8 a.m., and you are encouraged to ask friends and family to pledge their support to you.
This is the perfect time to get some exercise and enjoy the fresh air. Remember to bring a mask if your allergies dislike pollen.
If walking is not for you, no worries; starting at 9 a.m., you can still get healthy with an exercise session, square dancing or learning the latest dance moves.
There will also be a representative from the Coosa County Extension Office and a local medical professional to provide information and tips for healthy eating and living.
The Alumni Association has several old school activities planned for you such as: plaiting the May Pole, bingo, cake walk, checkers, T-ball, and horseshoes, just to name a few.
There will be live music and concessions with your favorite fried fish, nachos and much more. All proceeds from this event will be used for needed repairs in the kitchen, such as painting and repairing the floor and windows.
This community event has been planned with healthy and fun activities for all.
Students, if you need community service hours, please attend this event between 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and volunteer. We could use your help with the activities.
Remember the date, Saturday, June 11, and please come and bring the family. Don’t forget your sun hat, lawn chair or picnic blanket. The Alumni Association looks forward to seeing you there.
