Richville Rundown

Hurricane Isaias did happen. Thankfully, we just got much needed rain with some wind causing power outages, but no major storms. The forecast is for a cool weekend which will be great after the warm temperatures earlier in the week.
The Central Cougars football schedule shows they play Lanett tonight at home at 7. It is senior night and the last home game.
This Sunday is the last day the Old Rock Jail will be open until April next year. It is open from 2 to 4 p.m. Admission is $3! So, make plans to come check it out.
The Coosa County Historical Society will have its regular quarterly meeting on Sunday, October 25, at the Rockford Senior Center at 2 p.m. This will be a “show and Tell” so bring your interesting artifacts to show.
In order to make sure everyone has a turn, please limit your talk to about three minutes. You don’t have to be a member to attend or bring something to show. So, mark your calendars.
Providence Baptist Church will be handing out treat bags at the home of our pastor, Andy and Ragan Dickson, in Rockford on Halloween night. So, stop by and see us.
I read a quote from @riseinspiredwoman this week on Facebook. “Make it a habit to wake up grateful, no matter what you’re going through. Life could be better, but it could also be much worse. Always pray and stay thankful.”
So many times, we just look at the negatives in our lives instead of the positives. No matter what life throws at us, it could be worse. Be a Pollyanna! Look at the glass as half full.
So, my Bible verses this week are from I Thessalonians 5:16-18. They read, “Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”
These verses say give thanks or be grateful for everything, good or challenging. We as Christians are to maintain gratitude across all life situations.
It also tells us to rejoice or be glad and pray continually. By praying, we find out what God wants us to do. It’s our communication with God!
Communication requires two-way conversation. You can’t be the one who does all the talking; you need to stop and listen to what God says back to you. I don’t mean you’re going to hear a booming voice from heaven, but if you listen, you will hear God speak to you in your mind.
I think lack of communication not only hurts us in our spiritual life, but also in our daily life. We all want to be the one who speaks, but seldom truly listen to what the other person says. It seems that everyone thinks what they have to say is more important than anyone else.
Pray for those that have lost loved ones in our community or that are ill. Remember the shut-ins in our community, as well. They don’t just need our prayers, but can benefit from visits, also, even if it’s just a phone call.
