Equality & Nixburg News
Jennifer Williamson
It was very nice to have some cooler weather, and I spent my whole day off clearing the overgrowth that had taken over the fenceline during the heat I could not work in. Place is looking a bit nicer; now to clean up the porch, LOL.
Neighborhood Watch meeting attendance was down last week. I hope more folks will make an effort to join the next meeting that will be held October 22, starting at 6:30 p.m. It is an informative time to hear from the Sheriff’s Office, the volunteer fire department and other local news and announcements. Also, some really good food is provided by Mr. David Dial.
First Saturday is tomorrow. Come out and support your local volunteer fire department, starting with breakfast for a donation, as well as a bake sale and rummage sale. Lunch plates start at 11 a.m. Also, the community fellowship if you wish to stay to sit and eat, or be like me and grab and go as I have to get back to work.
Big John’s Liquidation has brought in some nice stuff, everything from cool toys my grandson enjoyed, to larger items like projectors and remote lawnmowers.
Jenny’s General has all your holiday baking spices and herbs, as well as some other healthy and natural items.
For the fishers in the area, don’t forget CJ’s Fishing Hole for all your fishing equipment and supplies.
I tend to forget to mention Quality Food Mart, which I shouldn’t as they are an anchor business in Equality and offer more than gas and the package store. They also offer a Sunday lunch every other week, with this Sunday being that week. The Sunday lunch consists of a meat, two sides and dessert. Shop local; shop small.
Community activities that are available in Equality and Nixburg area:
- The Equality quilting group meets every Monday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Jenny’s General Store. We do more than quilt; some embroider, crochet and other needle arts. And yes, we still meet every week!
- Elaine Rutledge of Nixburg hosts Rummikub at the Alexander City Senior Center in the Sportplex every Friday starting at 10 a.m.
- Equality Neighborhood Watch meeting is on the fourth Thursday of every month.
- Equality Volunteer Fire Department Fundraiser on the first Saturday of every month.
I depend upon my readers to share with me what is happening within your organizations, churches, neighborhoods, groups, or family to share in next week’s column. Please contact me; leave a voice message or text 256-794-3801 or email at coosacafe@gmail.com.
