Well, it’s official; fall is here. Hopefully the temperatures will start to reflect the season. It’s been an extremely hot summer, so I think everyone will be welcoming the cooler weather.
Congratulations to the Central Cougars on their big win over B.B. Comer. They don’t have a game this week, then they will play Dadeville next Friday.
Providence Baptist Church’s 3rd Annual Bass Tournament was a great success. They want to thank everyone who participated, as well as those who helped.
The revival at Providence Baptist Church this past week was well attended. Rev. Rob Jackson brought some wonderful messages.
If you don’t have a church, Providence invites you to attend their services. Sunday school is at 10 a.m., and worship service starts at 11. Also, Sunday night at 6 p.m. and Wednesday night at 6:30 p.m.
This Wednesday night is our fifth Wednesday fellowship meal. We will have a Mexican theme, so bring a dish and fellowship with us.
Don’t forget the Old Rock Jail is back open on Sundays from 2 to 4. Admission is $3! It will close for the season on October 18. So, make plans to come check it out.
The Coosa County Historical Society will have its regular quarterly meeting on Sunday, October 25, at the Rockford Senior Center at 2 p.m. This will be a “Show and Tell” so bring your interesting artifacts to show. So, mark your calendars.
My Bible verse this week is about not giving up. Psalm 118:17 reads, “I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the Lord.”
This verse is a statement of survival, not just for personal reasons, but to tell others about what God has done for them. Many times we encounter obstacles in life that are near-death experiences, but we survive.
However, often we don’t thank God for bringing us through the experience. Our life is spared so we can praise God and tell others what He has done for us.
This verse is a bold statement of trust, reminding believers that God controls life and death. We don’t know how long we have to live, but it’s in God’s hands. While we live, we should strive to do God’s will and honor Him in all we do.
When the psalmist wrote this, he was rejoicing that God had brought Israel through some dangerous moments. We need to take any opportunity to thank God for protecting us as we go about our lives. Don’t forget to tell others about what God has done for you.
Pray for those that have lost loved ones in our community or that are ill. Remember the shut-ins in our community, as well. They don’t just need our prayers, but can benefit from visits, also, even if it’s just a phone call.
