Mr. Mitchell’s physical science students have been studying measurements, the metric system, accuracy, and precision.
Using a graduated cylinder, they measured 50 milliliters of water into each of five different beakers. They measured different masses of salts using an electronic balance.
Each beaker received a different mass of salt. Food coloring was used to color the solutions.
Students used their pipetting skills to add 10 ml of each solution to a 50-ml graduated cylinder to create a rainbow of solutions with the least dense solutions floating on top of the most dense solutions.
As demonstrated in the pictures, they did an outstanding job, which shows the challenge of precise measurements to obtain a crisp rainbow of colors.
Mrs White’s physics students used toy battery-operated trucks to study constant velocity, as well as Matchbox cars and ramps to study constant acceleration.
They measured distance and time traveled in addition to calculating velocities and accelerations. Lastly, they converted meters per second to miles per hour in order to create motion graphs.
