Equality & Nixburg News
Jennifer Williamson
Tomorrow, August 1, is the Equality Volunteer Fire Department’s First Saturday fundraising event, starting at 8 a.m. with breakfast for a donation, bake sale and rummage sale. Lunch starts at 11 a.m. with hamburgers and hot dog plates. Please join in supporting the fire department and the community.
Jenny’s General Store is excited to announce they are now a U-Haul dealer. So if you have a need for a truck or trailer to rent for a move; such as sending a child or grandchild to college, moving a newly graduated child home, or perhaps just transporting a large item from one location to another; there is a local dealership in Equality to help fulfill these needs.
I am finally taking a small vacation with my family; it has been very challenging to make this happen as there have been higher priority areas from time to finances making it challenging to put even a long weekend together. But got it done and praying for a lovely long weekend with my children and grandchildren.
Our grandson turns 6 years old so it will include a little celebration for him, and when we return, he will be getting ready to return to school.
That is a good segue to remind everyone to be on the lookout for school buses and school bus stops as children are returning to school next week. It is not only lawful to stop for buses with lights on picking up students, but also the right thing to do to keep our children safe.
Community activities that are available in Equality and Nixburg area that you can help support:
- The Equality quilting group meets every Monday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Jenny’s General Store. We do more than quilt; some embroider, crochet and other needle arts. And yes, we still meet every week!
- Kendrick Memorial Baptist Church’s yard sale is held most Saturdays starting at 8 a.m. Address is 5152 Ala. Highway 9 in case you haven’t noticed it driving in Nixburg.
- Elaine Rutledge of Nixburg hosts Rummikub at the Alexander City Senior Center in the Sportplex every Friday starting at 10 a.m.
I depend upon my readers to share with me what is happening within your organizations, churches, neighborhoods, groups, or family to share in next week’s column. Please contact me; leave a voice message or text 256-794-3801 or email at coosacafe@gmail.com.
