This Sunday, July 26, at 2 p.m. the quarterly Historical Society meeting will be held at The Old Rockford School.
Our guest speaker will be Larry Caver with the Old Autauga Historical Society. His topic will be “Beginning: A Quest of Your family History.” The meeting is open to the public in addition to society members. Refreshments are furnished by members.
This should be a very interesting meeting, whether just starting your family research or having been at it for years. He is an excellent speaker and very knowledgeable about genealogy. Looking forward to hearing him speak.
Also, our resource/reference room is now open on the last Wednesday of the month from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. It is located in the driver’s license building next to the post office. Come visit and see the resources we have for your genealogy searches.
Just a reminder that the old jail is closed until September 13.
The Richville Volunteer Fire Department Bingo Saturday night was well attended with several new faces. The next one will be August 22 starting at 6:30 p.m. Also, they serve concessions and usually have a cake or two to auction off. So, come out for a good time for a good cause.
Providence Baptist Church will have a back-to-school kid’s day on Saturday, August 1, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. There will be food, games and a water slide (weather permitting). We will have backpacks to give out based on grade level, so please call and register your child so we will have enough prepared for the grade level. Also, there will be someone doing free haircuts, but a child will need a note signed by parents giving permission. Please call MaLisa at 334-467-7725 to register your child.
Providence Baptist will also have a fish fry on Wednesday, July 29, at 6:30 p.m. The church is frying the fish, hush puppies and French fries. Please bring a side dish, dessert or drink. All are welcome.
This week my Bible verse is about fellowship. Hebrews 10:24-25 reads, “And let us be concerned about one another in order to promote love and good works, not staying away from our worship meetings, as some habitually do, but encouraging each other, and all the more as you see the day drawing near.”
These verses encourage Christians to intentionally support each other. While Bible teaching and study are important, fellowship helps motivate each other. I know there are times we can’t attend, but as Christians we are not meant to live in isolation concerning our faith.
People say I can worship God anywhere, and that is true, but the Bible teaches us to connect with others. It helps us build a support system, especially during hard times. Having family around is good, but having my church family to lean on and be encouraged is wonderful.
So, going to church is not just going because it’s expected of you, but it’s to receive a blessing not only from the Bible teaching, but the fellowship among the people.
Pray, also, for others that have lost loved ones in our community, as well as those that are ill. Remember the shut-ins in our community, as well. They don’t just need our prayers, but can benefit from visits, also, even if it’s just a phone call.
