Equality & Nixburg News
Jennifer Williamson
Sorry if you missed it, but Coosa Live had a great performance in their welcome back gathering by Vintage Vibe last Saturday. Not sure when the next event will be scheduled, but I know Rodger is wanting to book regular events again.
Several people have asked as they have missed having a place to go for live music without the trouble of going to a bar. I need to purchase signage so it is more visible since the log trucker who ran over the old sign never did replace it, and I gave up on chasing him down after many false promises.
I also think I need to paint the side of the building to match the front as I don’t think we can afford the mural we desired.
My milk cow is dried out and getting ready for her play date with a bull in the hopes for a future heifer. I will resume milking after the future calf is born. Hopefully by then I will have some more infrastructure in place to make things much easier so I can train up some help so I can have a backup for when I have to be away. That is my hope anyway.
Please join Equality Methodist Church for a good ole fashion picnic on Saturday, July 18, at 5 p.m. The Dixie Echoes will be performing, and hot dogs, chips and homemade ice cream will be served. Join in for fun, food and great gospel singing.
Equality Neighborhood Watch meeting is Thursday, July 23, starting at 6:30 p.m. Come join us for safety updates, sheriff’s report, food, and community. Food is provided by David Dial for a donation, and all are welcome.
Community activities that are available that you can support:
- The Equality quilting group meets every Monday evening from 6 to 8 at Jenny’s General Store. We do more than quilt; some embroider, crochet and other needle arts. And yes, we still meet every week!
- Kendrick Memorial Baptist Church’s yard sale is held most Saturdays starting at 8 a.m. Address is 5152 Ala. Highway 9 in case you haven’t noticed it driving on Highway 9 in Nixburg.
- Elaine Rutledge of Nixburg hosts Rummikub at the Alexander City Senior Center in the Sportplex every Friday starting at 10 a.m.
I depend upon my readers to share with me what is happening within your organizations, churches, neighborhoods, groups, or family to share in next week’s column. Please contact me; leave a voice message or text 256-531-6460 or email at coosacafe@gmail.com.
