Yesterday I was visiting the cousins over in Chilton County, and something caught my eye. It was a pickup truck pulling an oversized trailer to the edge of a field, with half a dozen people following lifting up watermelons, and another few people stacking, but it was almost full.
It was such a productive community effort that I hoped watermelon prices were high this year.
Summertime, local produce, reward for your efforts in the soil. I hope Coosa County gardeners are having a bountiful year. We sure have had ample rain.
I think, and hope, the disease scare about produce is related to produce that is mass harvested, packed and shipped and stored. Not produce picked by a family with a pickup truck.
