Equality & Nixburg News
Jennifer Williamson
Please support local fire department, businesses that contribute to local economy
What is going on in Equality and Nixburg, Alabama? I don’t know, staying inside with fans and AC going because the Alabama July heat has arrived, and I am withering out in it.
OK, not totally true, I will be venturing out to get my fish dinner from the Equality Volunteer Fire Department Fish Fry Fundraiser at the Equality Fire Department Lodge on Friday, July 3rd, 2 to 6 p.m., and tomorrow, July 4th, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. It will be $15 a plate, or $6 for a child’s plate. Fish, hush puppies, coleslaw, fries or onion rings, and drink. Thank you for supporting the Equality Fire Department.
Coosa Fancy’s summer Customer Supported Agriculture (CSA) is open and begins July 11! For a flat rate of $120 for farm pickup, guarantee yourself a weekly taste of tomatoes, squash, cucumbers, available greens, and whatever else your favorite small farm has growing in the garden! Visit www.coosa-fancy.com for more information or to sign up.
Coosa Fancy also has a discount available for those ready to sign up for their 10-week Fall CSA! Check out their website for options and more information!
I encourage you to support our local businesses, from the volunteer fire department to local organic farm to the establishments in downtown Equality like Jenny’s General, Big John’s Liquidation, The Antique Store, CJ’s Fishing Hole, and Quality Food Mart.
Small businesses contribute to the local economy, helping to foster community identity and resilience. Additionally, small businesses provide unique products and personalized customer service, enhancing the overall shopping experience.
Community activities that are available that you can also support:
- The Equality quilting group meets every Monday evening from 6 to 8 at Jenny’s General Store. We do more than quilt; some embroider, crochet and other needle arts. And yes, we still meet every week!
- Kendrick Memorial Baptist Church’s yard sale is held most Saturdays starting at 8 a.m. Address is 5152 Ala. Highway 9 in Nixburg.
- Elaine Rutledge of Nixburg hosts Rummikub at the Alexander City Senior Center in the Sportplex every Friday starting at 10 a.m.
I depend upon my readers to share with me what is happening within your organizations, churches, neighborhoods, groups, or family to share in next week’s column. Please contact me; leave a voice message or text 256-531-6460 or email at coosacafe@gmail.com.
