A Goodwater man was arrested last Friday on six drug-related charges after officers stopped to investigate a vehicle.
On June 12, Deputy Kelley and a reserve deputy were patrolling the Goodwater area on Dalton Street when they observed a vehicle sitting in the middle of the road.
Law enforcement officers approached the vehicle. Kelley asked an individual to step out of the vehicle and proceeded to ask for consent to search his pockets.
While searching him, Kelley retrieved a clear baggy containing a white crystal-like substance in his front left pocket.
Deputies then conducted a search of the vehicle where they smelled the odor of marijuana.
During the vehicle search they found numerous items for smoking marijuana and meth. Several other drug-related items were also found in the vehicle.
Ultimately 46-year-old Bennie Carltavious Kelly was arrested and charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession of barbiturate, possession of marijuana, and three counts of possession of drug paraphernalia.
His total bond was set at $22,500. He was released on bond on June 15 to await trial.
Anyone who observes or suspects illegal activity is encouraged to report it to the Coosa County Sheriff’s Office at 256-377-4922 or online at www.coosacountyso.org. Anonymous tips are also welcome.
