Richville Rundown
Sheila Ward
It’s June! School is out, and people are starting vacations. My raised bed garden is growing! I got my first zucchini and squash.
My herbs are producing, too. I’ve got green tomatoes and little peppers which will be ready in the next week. It’s been a long time since I had a garden, and I am enjoying my raised beds.
Don’t forget the Richville Volunteer Fire Department will host Bingo tomorrow night starting at 6:30 p.m. Also, they will be serving concessions. So, come out for a good time for a good cause.
The Old Rock Jail will again be open this Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and the next Sunday after that. It will be closed on Father’s Day Sunday and then open the next Sunday, which will be the last one until the Sunday after Labor Day in September. Admission is $3 for adults, and free for children under 12.
It will be open during Rockford’s 250 Celebration on June 27 from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. We will have a selection of our books to sell, also. So, plan to come out and not only tour the jail, but purchase books about Coosa County!
Providence Baptist Church will have its Kids Night Out/VBS Kick-off tonight from 5 to 8. This will be kick-off for Vacation Bible School. If the weather cooperates, there will be a water slide in addition to other games. Also, food will be served. It is open to all children from age 3 to highschooler.
Also, Providence will celebrate Homecoming on Sunday, June 7, beginning at 10 a.m. Former Pastor Mark Seals will be the guest preacher with Clear Vision Ministries Trio providing the special music.
The service will be followed by a meal in the fellowship hall. The church provides the meat, with sides, desserts and drinks brought by members. All are welcome for fellowship and food, so make plans to attend!
Vacation Bible School at Providence will be June 14–17 from 5:30 to 8 each night. Family night will be on Wednesday, June 14, starting at 7 p.m. Students will need to be there at 5:30 p.m. as usual. The theme is “Illumination Station,” shining a light on who Jesus really is. The van will pick up at Rockford each night. More details next week.
This week my Bible verse is about patience and waiting. The Bible teaches us encouragement for delay in events that are beyond our control. It encourages patiently waiting renews our strength and trust in God. Isaiah 40:31 reads, “But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”
Right now, I am in a situation where I have to be because things are beyond my control. So, I am praying for God to help me to have patience and allow Him control of things.
Pray, also, for others that have lost loved ones in our community, as well as those that are ill. Remember the shut-ins in our community, as well. They don’t just need our prayers, but can benefit from visits, also, even if it’s just a phone call.
Organizations in the area, as well as churches, I need your events! If your family has some news or an event to share, please contact me. I would prefer text to 334-414-7147 or emails to wardgrand6@gmail.com, but phone calls will be fine, too. If you don’t get me when you call, be sure to leave a message.
