Richville Rundown
Sheila Ward
Well, school is over for the year! However, summer school will be starting in a couple of weeks for some students. So, some of those big yellow buses will be on the road, so look out for them.
As I write this on the eve of the election, many will be celebrating Tuesday night while some will have their dreams dashed. With several candidates in some of the state races, there is bound to be a run-off which will be June 16.
If you haven’t already put your order in for those wonderful Boston butts the Richville Volunteer Fire Department sells for Memorial Day, they might have some extra, but would be very limited, if any. Don’t forget to pick up Saturday, May 23, between 7 and 9 a.m. Also, Neighborhood Watch will have baked goods for sale, so bring extra money to support them. I’m making Ms. Elizabeth’s Whipping Cream Pound Cake for sale!
The Old Rock Jail will be closed this Sunday because of Memorial Day weekend. It will reopen next Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. Admission is $3 for adults and children under 12 free.
Plans are underway for it to be open during Rockford’s 250 Celebration on June 27 from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. We will have a selection of our books to sell, also. So, plan to come out and not only tour the jail, but purchase books about Coosa County!
Beginning Wednesday, May 27, the Coosa County Historical Society Resource Room will be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. It is located in the driver’s license building next to the post office. It will be open the last Wednesday of each month until further notice. Other dates may be added.
Providence Baptist Church will have its Kids Night Out/VBS Kick-Off on June 5 from 5 to 8 p.m. More details about that next week.
We will also celebrate Homecoming on Sunday, June 7, beginning at 10 a.m. Former Pastor Mark Seals will be the guest preacher with Clear Vision Ministries Trio providing the special music. The service will be followed by a meal in the fellowship hall. The church provides the meat, with sides, desserts and drinks brought by members. There is always plenty!
This week my Bible verse is about renewal of spirit. Psalm 51:10 reads, “Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.”
Spiritual renewal is the transforming work of the Holy Spirit to restore a believer’s heart, mind and relationship with God. When we make that original acceptance of Jesus into our hearts that’s a one-time event; however, we need inner renewal daily to replace worldly habits with a Christ-minded heart. Renewal is turning away from sin. Salvation doesn’t magically prevent us from sinning. We are human and make mistakes and wrong decisions.
Satan is working even harder to turn us away toward sin. But with the Holy Spirit’s help, we can address those sins with God’s grace.
Pray, also, for others that have lost loved ones in our community, as well as those that are ill. Remember the shut-ins in our community, as well. They don’t just need our prayers, but can benefit from visits, also, even if it’s just a phone call.
Organizations in the area, as well as churches, I need your events! If your family has some news or an event to share, please contact me. I would prefer text to 334-414-7147 or emails to wardgrand6@gmail.com, but phone calls will be fine, too. If you don’t get me when you call, be sure to leave a message.
