Equality & Nixburg News
Jennifer Williamson
Jenny’s General should have a new roof by June. I was excited to hear that my guy can start working on it very soon, which is very exciting for me.
A building doesn’t last very long without a good roof to keep out the rain, or a good foundation. Well, the foundation here is a solid slab, and now the roof will be replaced so the building should stand for many years to come.
Speaking of buildings, I had written in previous columns that I desire to retire to a community where I can walk or bicycle to do all my business, and it was suggested to me that Eclectic would be that location.
Well, I had customers who came into the store who were looking for a nice small-town community to move to. They had moved to Eclectic thinking that was their retirement home, but developers have also moved in, and woods, fields and farms are all disappearing for cookie cutter houses built in HOA ruled subdivisions, so Eclectic is no longer the quaint little retirement town we had hoped for.
So maybe Equality will get a grocery store and other locally owned small businesses. If a franchise or chain store comes we will move immediately and leave it to those that want to sacrifice the community of local ownership for the instant convenience of over processed goods and corporate greed.
