Equality & Nixburg News
Jennifer Williamson
I am excited that I got a great quote on replacing the galvanized roof on Jenny’s General, and with a trusted local neighbor to boot. He also has some great suggestions on sprucing up the place while keeping with a vintage look of the old general store.
Are you on Facebook? Have you noticed any of the new posts for Jenny’s General Store? Jenny’s General is also doing an online giveaway for Mother’s Day, so go out on Facebook to enter. But if you are not on Facebook that is OK; come in and see our selection of teas and get a discount on the tea of the week.
I am still seeking ideas for cute quips to put on some roadside stake signs to draw folks’ attention to our little store. If you have any suggestions send them my way.
I am so grateful for the rain we got this week; it is so needed. Trying to grow out our pasture for the cow and horse in a drought is not very successful. So, the rain sure will help with the pasture, as well as my garden.
So instead of April showers for May flowers, will we get May showers for June flowers and pasture? I will take it.
Rita’s Antiques has been having going-out-of-business sales for the past couple of months. It is sad seeing everything go. One building was purchased by WC Auctions in Kellyton, the rest to shopping collectors. I was able to get a few deals, including a sales counter for Jenny’s General.
But some exciting news is the buildings are of interest to others who are discussing renting them. I hope we get some new business in town to replace the antique store. I wonder what kind of businesses might come to town?
Equality Volunteer Fire Department will be selling Boston butts and a rack of St Louis ribs for $35 each over Memorial Day weekend. Distribution day will be May 23, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the fire department lodge. I got mine ordered; I hope you have got yours ordered, as well. Please support our local volunteer fire department with this great fund-raising activity.
Other community activities that are available that you can also support:

- Kendrick Memorial Baptist Church’s yard sale, held most Saturdays starting at 8 a.m. Address is 5152 Ala. Hwy. 9 in case you haven’t noticed it driving on Highway 9.

- Equality Neighborhood Watch meeting will be held Thursday, May 28, starting at 6:30 p.m.
I depend upon my readers to share with me what is happening within your organizations, churches, neighborhoods, groups, or family to share in next week’s column. Please contact me; leave a voice message or text 256-531-6460 or email at coosacafe@gmail.com.
