Special to the News
I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Matthew Reams, and I am running for Coosa County Commission District 4.
Serving others has always been my passion, but serving Coosa County is nearest to my heart. When I was a young child, my mother would take me to Goodwater nursing home as she volunteered her time to go from room to room visiting the residents there. From raking leaves at age 12 to cooking a free meal at my home church in Kellyton on Wednesday nights, I have always felt the urge to serve.
When I became the pastor of Sardis Baptist Church in Richville almost 10 years ago, I desired to get closer to the community in two specific ways.
After much prayer and consideration, I made the decision to purchase property in Rockford and open the Triple R Café. Since that time, I have had the opportunity to get to know many people from all around the county.
With my children enrolled in the Coosa County School System, I began to find many ways to serve and support our school. These things are not things that I decided to do in preparation for running for office; this is the way that I was raised and is the lifestyle that I have been led to live.
My management skills began at the age of 22. I learned not only how to effectively manage people, but also learned, through experience, the self-discipline needed to successfully own and operate my own business.
Using these management skills and self-discipline I am able to proudly serve as the chaplain of the Coosa County Sheriff’s Office, serve on the Coosa County Board of Equalization, serve as the vice president of the Coosa County Scenic Waterways, serve as Transition Director of Missions for the Central Baptist Association, and pastor Sardis Baptist Church while also running a successful business.
The journey that led me to announcing my candidacy has been enjoyable, and I do not take responsibility of this position lightly. I vow to diligently pursue the knowledge and training required to effectively perform the duties of the county commissioner.
I feel that being elected as a public servant is one of the greatest honors that can be given by the public. If elected, I will vow to serve all the citizens of my district to the same degree.
On May 19 I would ask that you would give me the privilege of representing you. Vote for Matthew Reams for Coosa County Commissioner District 4.
