Housing Authority Invites Comments on Draft Plans

 

The Goodwater Housing Authority’s (GHA) draft annual and five-year plan has been reviewed and discussed at the February Resident Advisory Board Meeting. The Board of Commissioners of the GHA has also reviewed the draft plan and given their consent. The item in the plan, which impacts public housing residents the most, is the Capital Improvement Plan.

 

The GHA invites all GHA residents and other interested parties to submit comments and suggestions on the draft plan for consideration prior to the adoption of the final plan. The time period allocated to provide public comments begins February 19, 2026, and ends April 6, 2026.

INVITATION TO BIDDERS

Sealed proposals will be received by the Coosa County Board of Education, until 2:00 P.M., legally prevailing time, April 9, 2026 for the Coosa Central High School Softball Improvements at the Coosa County Board of Education, 73 Nixburg Road, Rockford, Alabama, at which time and place they will be publicly opened. A cashier’s check or bid bond payable to Coosa County Board of Education in an amount not less than five (5) percent of the amount of the bid, but in no event more than $10,000, must accompany the bidder’s proposal. Performance and Payment Bonds and evidence of insurance required in the bid documents will be required at the signing of the Contract. Drawings and Specifications may be examined at the office of the Architect, Ward Scott Morris Architecture, Inc., 1606 Paul Bryant Drive, Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and TuscaBlue, 2806 Greensboro Avenue, Tuscaloosa, Alabama. All bidders bidding in amounts exceeding that established by the State Licensing Board for General Contractors must be licensed under the provisions of Title 34, Chapter 8, Code of Alabama, 1975, and must show evidence of license before bidding or bid will not be received or considered by the Architect; the bidder shall show such evidence by clearly displaying his or her current license number on the outside of the sealed envelope in which the proposal is delivered. The Owner reserves the right to reject any or all proposals and to waive technical errors if, in the Owner’s judgment, the best interests of the Owner will thereby be promoted. Alabama Gubernatorial elections will be held in 2026. Alabama will hold its Primary Election for the Democrat and Republican political parties on Tuesday, May 19, 2026. The Primary Runoff Election will be held on Tuesday, June 16, 2026.
The Primary Election for the major parties is a step toward selecting candidates for the offices that will appear on the November 3, 2026, General Election ballot. In the Primary Election, only offices with more than one qualified candidate running within the respective party will be listed on the Party ballot. If there is only one qualified candidate within the party for a particular office, that candidate will be the party’s candidate and will only appear on the November 3, 2026, General Election ballot. For all offices affecting Coosa County with multiple candidates within either the Democrat or Republican parties, sample ballots will be published in the Coosa County News as soon
as they are available.
Alabama Primary Elections are “major party” elections. To participate in the 2026 Primary Election on May 19, 2026, a voter must be registered to vote, present proper Identification, then declare and vote either a Democrat Party ballot, a Republican Party
ballot, or a Constitutional Amendment only ballot. There can be no split-party or write-in voting in Alabama primary elections because they are major-party elections. Any voter who votes in the Primary Party Election and then votes in the Primary Runoff Election must vote the same party affiliation in the Primary Runoff as he/she voted in the Primary Election. Any voter not voting in the Primary Election or voting a Constitutional Amendment only ballot may select either party in the Primary Runoff Election.
For the November 3, 2026, General Election, the voter does not select a party ballot. Voters may vote for anyone on the ballot regardless of party affiliation. All Coosa County Polling Facilities/Places are handicap accessible and have all the required voting equipment to assist voters with the voting process. Curbside voting in Alabama is expressly prohibited by law, all voting must be accomplished inside the polling facility. Ballots may not be taken outside the facility.

Polling facility locations for the 2026 elections are: Absentee (Courthouse); Community Life Center, Cottage Grove; Equality Methodist Church Fellowship Hall (Note: Facility Name change only); Goodwater Fire Department on highway 9; Hanover Fire
Department; Kellyton Civic Complex Cafeteria; Marble Valley Fire Department; Goodwater Fire Station 3 (Mt. Olive); Ray Fire Department; Richville Fire Department; Rockford Event Center; Weogufka Center for Arts (Old High School lunchroom); and West Coosa Senior Center, Stewartville. Voting hours are 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Absentee voting may be accomplished in the Judge of Probate’s office. Absentee Voting is now in progress. A voter may apply by mail or come to the Absentee Election Manager, Judge of Probate Richard Dean’s office to obtain and/or cast an absentee ballot.

Pursuant to §21-4-23(b) of the Code of Alabama (1975), notice is hereby given of the following with regard to Coosa County, Alabama:
1. Instructions, printed in large type, conspicuously displayed at each voter registration site and polling place, sufficient to provide hearing impaired and seriously visually impaired voters with adequate information as to how and where they may register and vote.
2. Each polling place shall have an ExpressVote Universal Voting System for use by voters with disabilities who would otherwise be prevented from voting because of their inability to mark a paper ballot.
3. Absentee ballots are available to any voter with a disability or elderly voter who, because of disability or age, is unable to go to their assigned polling place to vote on Election Day. The deadline for requesting and submitting an absentee ballot is the same as it is for other persons seeking to vote by absentee ballot.
4. Each voter, including voters with a disability or elderly voters, may select a person of his or her choice to accompany such voter into the polling place to assist with the marking and casting of a ballot, provided the person providing assistance is not the voting voter’s employer, agent of the voting voter’s employer, or an officer or agent of the voting voter’s labor union.
5. The Primary Election shall be held on Tuesday, May 19, 2026.
6. The Primary Runoff Election shall be held on Tuesday, June 16, 2026.
