Richville Rundown
Sheila Ward
How about this weather? While getting snow in March is not usual, we have had it occur in the past. But to get snow when the day before was in the upper 70s is very unusual.
In a little over 24-hour period we did experience all four seasons! By the time this is published it will once again be in the upper 70s and even about 80 degrees.
Providence Baptist Church hosted a “Kid’s Night Out” last week with about 15 kids. They enjoyed hot dogs and outdoor games, including an Easter egg hunt with glow-in-the-dark eggs.
A men’s Bible study is held each Thursday night (except the first Thursday) at 6:30 p.m. at the Richville Fire Department with a meal at 6 p.m. It is open to all, so men go check it out.
On the second and fourth Thursday night, Providence Baptist Church hosts a craft night to fill Operation Christmas Child boxes. So, if you are interested, come out next week to see what we are doing.
Richville Volunteer Fire Department’s Bingo will be tomorrow, Saturday, March 21, at 6:30 p.m. So come out and support your fire department and have fun doing it. They will also have concessions. So, mark your calendars!
There’s not much time left to get your taxes prepared. So, take advantage of the free service that Volunteer Connections of Central Alabama (VCCA) offers in Rockford on Wednesdays at the fellowship hall of Rockford Methodist Church.
This is only a drop-off and pick-up site; no returns are done at that location. No appointment is necessary.
They will be there for the next three Wednesdays with April 8 the last day for pick-ups. We will only take drop-offs that day if you can pick up in the Alexander City office.
Gas prices have really increased this past week, as well as some stations having limited supply. Reminds me of the 70s when not only were gas prices high, but also in short supply. There is so much going on in the world right now that it affects the supply and thus the price of gas. Hopefully, it will settle down soon.
This week my Bible verses are about challenges. James 1:2-4 reads, “Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness.”
We should consider trials or difficulties as opportunities for spiritual growth with growing endurance and maturity. Challenges that test our faith help to develop it into maturity.
It doesn’t intend for us to enjoy pain and difficulties, but to use them to grow in our faith in God by relying on Him. We should remain encouraged when these trials occur and use them to work good in our lives.
Just as it takes fire for silver to be exposed, so should challenges produce a better and closer faith in God for us.
Be in prayer for those that have lost loved ones in our community, as well as those that are ill. Remember the shut-ins in our community, as well. They don’t just need our prayers, but can benefit from visits, also, even if it’s just a phone call.
