AG Marshall announces Court of Criminal Appeals upholds unlawful possession of a firearm, intentional murder conviction in Tuscaloosa County

Attorney General Steve Marshall announced that the Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals affirmed the convictions of Terek Jerome Herron-Antone, 37, of Duncanville, for unlawful possession of a firearm and intentional murder. Herron-Antone was convicted in the Tuscaloosa County Circuit Court on January 16, 2025.
The evidence at trial showed that in the early morning hours of July 28, 2021, an Alabama state trooper on routine patrol discovered Syibnieka Underwood’s body sitting in the passenger seat of a vehicle, parked on the shoulder of Highway 82 in Hale County. The victim had been shot at close range in the head.
Not long after the discovery of the victim’s body, police received an anonymous tip that Herron-Antone was responsible for her murder and had killed her at his residence. When officers responded to Herron-Antone’s home, they noticed a smoldering burn pile in the yard and later found both an earring belonging to the victim and the victim’s DNA in Herron-Antone’s yard. Herron’s initial trial ended prematurely due to juror misconduct, but he was convicted during his subsequent second trial.
Tuscaloosa County District Attorney Hays Webb’s office successfully prosecuted this case and obtained guilty verdicts. Herron-Antone was sentenced to life imprisonment and life imprisonment without the possibility for parole for his unlawful possession of a firearm and intentional murder convictions. Herron-Antone sought to have his convictions reversed on appeal.
The Attorney General’s Criminal Appeals Division handled the case during the appeals process, arguing for the Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals to affirm Herron-Antone’s convictions. The Court did so in a decision issued Friday, January 30, 2026.
Attorney General Marshall commended Assistant Attorney General Anne A. Hill for her successful work on this case and thanked District Attorney Hays Webb and his staff for their valuable assistance in defending the unlawful possession of a firearm and intentional murder convictions.
