Equality & Nixburg News
Jennifer Williamson
Welcome to 2026. I hope it is a good year for all of us and our community.
Unfortunately for me it has had a rough start. Rodger and I went out of town to visit family and used electric fence collars on the dogs with great success. After we returned, I needed to charge the collars and one of the dogs left the yard, so when she returned, I put the collar back on her and went to work. Came home and she was not home.
We have searched for days, and so have several neighbors. There is no evidence of her being hit on any of the roads, nor has she been seen by any of the neighbors, so we are surmising that she had been taken.
Willow is a lovely Altonian-Pyrenees livestock guardian dog. She was wearing both a blue collar and an electric fence collar. She is white with gray ears and rear, with tan spots on her sides. Willow has a very sweet personality, loves to be groomed and have her belly rubbed.
Her sister, Zurie, has been sad since she left. We all miss her very much and want her to return. I have posted her pictures on Facebook on the Equality page and the Equality AL Neighborhood Watch page and have also posted missing pet posters in Quality Food Mart.
Her dog sister, Zurie, is a pure white Pyrenees who has a fondness for the Equality Volunteer Fire Department. Many neighbors have reported seeing her there. I have found her there, but when told to go home she does. We live behind the fire department, so it is close to home, and I don’t worry about her there and feel she is keeping watch of the building until the volunteers arrive.
The Equality quilting group meets every Monday evening from 6 to 8 at Jenny’s General Store. Everyone is welcome, even if you are not actively quilting. We have some that come and stitch, knit, crochet, or just come and visit while others cut, piece, layer, and quilt. It is a good time to socialize and share our skills with each other.
Please continue to support ongoing activities such as by Kendrick Memorial Baptist Church’s yard sale, held most Saturdays starting at 8 a.m. Address is 5152 Alabama Highway 9 in case you haven’t noticed it driving on Highway 9.
Elaine Rutledge of Nixburg hosts Rummikub at the Alexander City Senior Center in the Sportplex every first and third Friday starting at 10 a.m.
The first 2026 monthly Equality Neighborhood Watch meeting will be held on Thursday, January 22, starting at 6:30 p.m. Dave Dial will be preparing food for a donation, or you are welcome to bring a dish to pass. I hope to see you there.
I depend upon my readers to share with me what is happening within your organizations, churches, neighborhoods, groups, or family to share in next week’s column. Please contact me; leave a voice message or text 256-531-6460 or email at coosacafe@gmail.com.
