Equality & Nixburg News
Jennifer Williamson
Things have slowed down in Equality as we head into the Christmas season. Last week we celebrated at the Equality Neighborhood Watch with a holiday meal and a round of dirty Santa.
Also, part of the gathering was the annual Equality Volunteer Fire Department meeting attended by Board members, and Sam Leanard gave the report that the debt is paid a year early, and all EVFD fundraising efforts now support only current firefighting needs. Thank you, community, for all your support with this much needed service!
The next Neighborhood Watch meeting will be on January 22.
Last week we also had the last First Saturday of 2025 held with soup and chili. The weather was a dismal gray and damp day. Also was the performance at Equality Methodist Church by the Dixie Echoes, which had great attendance. What nice ways to end the year with.
The quilting group that meets every Monday evening from 6 to 8 at Jenny’s General Store will continue to meet except for the Monday after Christmas, December 29. Everyone is welcome, even if you are not actively quilting.
We have some that come and stitch or just come and visit while others cut, piece, layer, and quilt. It is a good time to socialize and share our skills with each other.
Please continue to support ongoing activities such as by Kendrick Memorial Baptist Church’s yard sale, held most Saturdays starting at 8 a.m. Address is 5152 Ala. Highway 9 in case you haven’t noticed it driving on Highway 9. Also, Elaine Rutledge of Nixburg hosts Rummikub at the Alexander City Senior Center in the Sportplex every first and third Friday starting at 10 a.m.
Jenny’s General will be adding some sewing and quilting tools and items as the group continues. Maybe some fabrics, precuts because there is no space for bolts, and right now fabric is very expensive.
Jenny’s also has some gift options if you are out shopping for someone special. Store is open Tuesday through Friday, 2 to 6 p.m., and Saturday 8 a.m. to 3 p.m, and by appointment is available if these hours do not work for you.
I depend upon my readers to share with me what is happening within your organizations, churches, neighborhoods, groups, or family to share in next week’s column. Please contact me; leave a voice message or text 256-531-6460 or email at coosacafe@gmail.com.
