Richville Rundown
Sheila Ward
Hello December! Happy birthday to all those celebrating this month, but especially the most important birthday of all, Jesus’ birthday on the 25th. Remember that Christmas is much more than Santa, presents and family; without Jesus it’s all nothing.
The weather has been constantly changing, but I think it’s about to settle in to being cold. At least we have had some much-needed rain. Enjoy the warmer days because they won’t last long.
Just a reminder that Providence Baptist Church is hosting their “kids’ night out” tonight, December 5, from 5 to 8. They play games, eat and just have fun. Any age is welcome, and you don’t have to attend our church to participate. Then, December 8 and 15, we go caroling to homes around the area.
Don’t forget that Rockford is having its Winter Fest and Christmas Parade next Saturday, December 13, after announcing a change to the date this week. The Winter Fest is from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. with food, vendors and music along Main Street. Then the parade starts at 6 p.m.
The Richville Volunteer Fire Department Bingo will not be held again until after the new year. There is so much going on that it’s hard to schedule this time of year. I’ll let you know the date as soon as it’s scheduled.
My Bible verses this month will be about the meaning of the Christmas holiday. While these verses are not traditionally used during the Christmas season, they state the reason that God sent Jesus, His son, to live, die and be resurrected.
This week my Bible verses are found in I Timothy 1:15-17. They read, “Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners – of whom I am the worst. But for that very reason I was shown mercy so that in me, the worst of sinners, Christ Jesus might display his immense patience as an example for those who would believe in him and receive eternal life. Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever.”
These verses are a summary of the mission and purpose of Christianity. Simply said, Jesus came into the world to save sinners. Paul is saying he was the worst of sinners to emphasize that even he could be saved.
Remember Paul was originally called Saul who went about persecuting and killing anyone that declared themselves as Christ followers. Until God transformed him on the road to Damascus, he was feared by all Christians. Then after his conversion he became a new man, preaching the Word to all who he encountered.
So, as we enter this Christmas season we need to remember the reason for the season: Jesus!
