Equality & Nixburg News
Jennifer Williamson
The countdown to Christmas has started. Last weekend was the first weekend of Advent on the religious spiritual side. On the secular side Black Friday is over, and sales still abound, begging shoppers to come out and buy presents for yourself and others.
I don’t do much shopping myself; I try to do the old-fashioned homemade Christmas because it is about faith, family and friends and not so much commercial consumerism to me.
Maybe a quilt or other needle work piece for a gift made at the weekly quilting group which I am so grateful for. Meeting every Monday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Jenny’s General Store.
We have all levels of skills, each working at their own pace – some fast, some slower – and we all are helping one another along the way. Some work on other needle work instead of quilting, which is nice to see and learn, as well. It is a good time to socialize and share our skills with each other.
Please continue to support ongoing activities such as by Kendrick Memorial Baptist Church’s yard sale, held most Saturdays starting at 8 a.m. Address is 5152 Ala. Highway 9 in case you haven’t noticed it driving on Highway 9.
Elaine Rutledge of Nixburg hosts Rummikub at the Alexander City Senior Center in the Sportplex every first and third Friday starting at 10 a.m.
Tomorrow, December 6, is the First Saturday fundraising event at Equality Volunteer Fire Department. They will have seven different offerings in both soup and chili with crackers and dessert for $10, all proceeds going to EVFD. Please come and support our Volunteer Fire Department.
Equality Methodist Church is hosting the Dixie Echoes Quartet from Florida this Sunday, December 7, from 5 to 7 p.m. There will be refreshments and fellowship afterwards. Please come and worship through music.
I depend upon my readers to share with me what is happening within your organizations, churches, neighborhoods, groups, or family to share in next week’s column. Please contact me; leave a voice message or text 256-531-6460 or email at coosacafe@gmail.com.
