In My Humble Opinion
Jodi McDade
HALLELUJUH! As I write this there are plans in the works to reopen our government after a record 42-plus days! Thank you to Sen. John Fetterman and the other Democrats who finally put the citizens of our country ahead of politics.
It’s just sad that it’s taken this long and so many hundreds of thousands of Americans have suffered – food subsidies cut, furloughed employees, loss of wages, etc. So many of our working citizens live paycheck to paycheck and have had to choose between food and paying bills – outrageous!
To all of you here in Coosa County, please remember that Manna Ministries at Rockford Baptist Church is here to help you get back on your feet. We provide food pickups on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9 a.m. – 11 a.m. and again on Fridays from 4 p.m. – 6 p.m. We never know exactly what we will have or how much we will have, but we are there if you need us.
I’m thankful that the Republicans made an offer that gave a solution so the Democrats could “save face” somewhat. The Senate leadership amended the Continuing Resolution to provide a vote on the issues with the Affordable Health Care plan that is scheduled to expire at the end of this year. Since the CR was changed it now has to go back to the House of Representatives to be voted on, but they have not made any guarantee of a separate vote on the AHC.
Many of the representatives for the House have been out of town and will have to get back to Washington the best way they can since there are still delays with the airlines in most of the major airports. The speaker of the House is hoping to have this vote on Wednesday and President Trump to then sign it almost immediately. If this happens as planned our government is open again as you read this!
Another issue from last week that will deal a blow to our country is the election of a Communist as mayor of New York City. I feel so sorry for the people there who do not have the ability to move to other areas.
I’ve always wanted to go to New York City, but I don’t think I want to go now. It’s going to be sad to watch what has always been such a robust city become a potential ghost town. But it may be a bonanza for the states that businesses will move to.
I hope you are supporting all the restaurants we now have in Rockford! I try to rotate around as much as possible. And don’t forget about Kelly’s Crossroads at Highway 22 and County Road 29!
We are going to be without the only gas station in Rockford while it is being renovated by the new owners. I’ll miss their chicken wings and pizza in the meantime, but can’t wait to see what will come next! DON’T LET YOUR FUEL TANKS RUN LOW – it’s 15-20 miles to the nearest gas station! AND – Enoch’s Hardware Bait and Tackle is now open behind the Coosa County News building! SHOP LOCALLY!
This week we have also celebrated Veterans Day with the annual lunch for veterans sponsored by the Town of Rockford. Patriotism is alive and well here in Coosa County. Please always thank a veteran for their service when you see them – they are why we are still a sovereign country!
I’m making this short because I need to make deadline before going to the veterans lunch to attend on behalf of my husband who served in the U.S. Navy. Veterans are a tight group of people because of the service they gave to our country, and I would love to call out all of you with a huge THANK YOU.
So, if YOU are a veteran of any of our armed forces, please know how much you are appreciated! God bless you all – until next week.
