In My Humble Opinion
Jodi McDade
We seem to be at a crossroads determining how we want to live here in the United States of America. We will always have different opinions, different goals and/or different beliefs, but are they required to be SO very different? Why does it seem so many people want to be identified by their family heritage – Irish, African, Mexican, German, etc. If you were born in the United States of America or if you legally came into America and became a nationalized citizen, you are an AMERICAN, period.
Yes, we all like to understand our family’s heritage, and we need to embrace it by recording our genealogy for our children and grandchildren so they know the history of their families. But we need to first identify as an AMERICAN. With that we have one very important common connection. From there we need to work out our differences and decide what is really important to how we relate to each other.
In the early days of our country people came to America for freedom to pursue what we had to offer, and we became a “melting pot” as everyone blended in together. They saw the opportunities they did not have in their home countries. But recently we have become a “tossed salad” with immigrants and refugees coming to America, but then wanting to live under their previous cultural and political situations.
Why did they come here if they didn’t want to live the American Dream? Many of them have insinuated themselves into our governments and now promote socialism, communism, democratic socialism, sharia law, and other cult-type groups. Weren’t those issues they came here to get away from?
At the same time true Americans have come closer together. The majority of us have grown accustomed to seeing blended families from different cultures, races and even genders. We have overcome the walls that had been put up to separate us. We have found the things we have in common that are so much more important than the things we disagree on. So why are so many in our government trying to tear us apart?
We are a country of law and order, rules and regulations and the freedom to decide the way we want our government to operate. But suddenly we see constant murders, rapes, assaults, arsons, sex trafficking, and an increase in how many genders there are. Many of these crimes are being committed by people allowed to enter our country by one political party to increase their voters. These people are not concerned with the safety, health, or rights of Americans – it’s all about the illegal immigrants.
So how did this get so out of hand? Voters here in the United States have fallen for all the “promises” of free food, free housing, free education that these politicians have made. Many of these voters are Christians who believe in helping others – especially those in need. But instead of our churches and religious organizations stepping in to help our fellow citizens, they have allowed the government to take over “charitable” activities.
For the last 100 years, we have seen more and more of our citizens allowing their families to be torn apart and become slaves to our government. What do people do when they are being held down and controlled by a government? They start to rebel.
Next, add on the fact that our judicial system no longer follows the laws of the land. Our law enforcement agencies do their jobs and arrest criminals, but then the judges let them right back out.
The judges don’t care about penalizing criminals for their crimes against our citizens; they are more concerned with not having to call jury trials and ask law-biding citizens to decide the guilt or innocence of a crime.
District attorneys don’t want to do the work of investigating possible crimes to determine if suspects should be charged and arrested. What are jails and prisons built for? To isolate these criminals from continuing to commit crimes. And, keep in mind, how many politicians are wanting to defund law enforcement – especially in the highest crime cities.
We have been watching while our ICE agents are being attacked for enforcing our immigration laws. We see many more of our law enforcement officers being assaulted, attacked and assassinated while they are trying to keep law-abiding citizens safe. Our country is being set on fire from within, and it is time we decide how we go forward.
One of the reasons I am relating all of these issues to who will put out these fires is a dream I had last week.
About 11 p.m. my fire alarm went off, and it took me a bit to get it turned off. I realized I had not set my security system that would have reported a possible fire to the Sheriff’s Office.
When I went back to bed I dreamed about what would have happened if I really had a fire. How long would it take one of our volunteer fire departments to respond, and where would they come from? Most of our volunteer departments have scheduled meetings and training in addition to public Board meetings. I felt safe when I lived in Equality, but now that I live in downtown Rockford I’m not so sure. Do we have an active and experienced fire department? If not, we need one!
Until next week – we’ll talk more about something! God bless you all!
