On Wednesday, October 1, two individuals attempted to promote prison contraband at Ventress Correctional Facility.
The Alabama Department of Corrections K-9 and Narcotics units initiated an investigation. The suspects were identified as Reco Dynell Harris and Ariyana Cateera Edwards.
ADOC agents collaborated with the Tallapoosa County Narcotics Task Force to locate and apprehend the suspects.
Harris and Edwards were arrested on unrelated charges by the task force in Alexander City. They were transported to the Tallapoosa County Jail.
Additional charges have been filed against Harris and Edwards, including first-degree possession of
marijuana, first-degree promoting prison contraband and second-degree promoting prison contraband.
Contraband seized included 17 cell phones and 692 grams of marijuana.
The investigation is ongoing, and additional charges may be pending.
