Richville Rundown
Sheila Ward
It’s officially fall or autumn! However, our weather has not gotten the memo! This past week has been more like summer in the daytime with cool mornings tempting you to think fall has started.
By the time this is published, we are supposed to have had rain, and that should cool things off. I’m ready for the cool, crisp days of fall with the changing colors of the leaves.
Some of the leaves have begun to turn, but many are just drying up and falling. If we don’t get some rain, I’m thinking we will not have pretty fall color around here. Hopefully some of the higher elevations will still have pretty colors.
While leaves may appear to be one color, they actually contain pigments of multiple colors depending on species. Chlorophyll, or the green pigment, dominates in the summertime, hiding the others. The leaves stop their food-making process when the length of daylight and temperatures drop. Then, the yellow, orange and red colors are able to be visible and give the leaves their beautiful fall colors. However, if there has not been enough rainfall, the leaves dry up instead of turning colors, becoming brown and falling off.
Congratulations to the Central Cougar football team once again. This is two wins in a row! Hopefully it will continue. Homecoming is tonight playing SAK! All games kick-off at 7 p.m.
The band and CES crowning will begin at 6:20 p.m. During halftime, the Homecoming representatives from each grade will be presented, ending with the Homecoming queen and king crowned.
My Bible verses this week are about faith. James 1:2-3 read, “Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.”
As I’ve said before, being a Christian and having trust and faith in God does not exempt us from trials. James shows us in this chapter that all trials are tests. A trial is defined as anything that causes sorrow, anguish, or pain.
Facing trials strengthens our faith just as gold is refined through fire. When our faith is tested, ways to help overcome it are reading our Bible daily; pray; seek help from your pastor or Christian friend for guidance; look for opportunities to grow; and practice trusting God.
We have to realize that God doesn’t always answer our prayers as we want, which is hard, but we have to trust God’s plan. Also, He sometimes delays the answer, so we gain the benefit of waiting patiently. Remember, our prayers should always be asked in God’s will, not ours. I saw the following quote on Facebook: “An umbrella cannot stop the rain, but it allows us to stand in the rain. Faith in God may not remove our trials, but it gives us strength to overcome them.”
Be in prayer for the ones that have lost a loved one and that are sick in our community. But also, think about giving someone a call just to say hello; it will make a difference in their day. Many times, when we go out to spread blessings to others, it’s us that gets the blessing.
Organizations in the area, as well as churches, I need your events! If your family has some news or an event to share, please contact me. I would prefer text to 334-414-7147 or emails to wardgrand6@gmail.com, but phone calls will be fine, too. If you don’t get me when you call, be sure to leave a message.
