Union Square News

Pastor Autry Powell Jr. and his wife, Lesha Powell
Union Square’s Neighborhood Watch meeting was nice and exciting. Deputy Ryan Brown gave us the sheriff’s report, but had to leave right afterward. He received an important call. We are grateful for law enforcement, especially our own.
Sheriff Howell and his staff are doing a great job, and we appreciate them. The entire county is important to them. They work faithfully and not just in Union Square. We didn’t want him to leave, but he had to do what his job called for. Hope all went well with him on his journey to the call.
Coosa County is blessed to have such great people who don’t mind doing the job. We must always pray for them and thank God for them.
The fundraiser was very successful. Our very own neighbor, Mr. Sam Barclay, was the winner for the prize; then he turned around and donated back to the funds. Mr. Barclay and his brother, Oscar, are two Godly given men, which is why they are blessed. They are a blessing to the neighborhood and other communities. The Bible mentions it being more blessed to give than receive.
Butch pulled Barclay’s name with joy and joked about pulling it. It was a fun business meeting. We wish more neighbors would come out and enjoy the meetings and catch up on the real news and not TV news.
Butch and I witnessed a 30-year-old crime for Jesus done by Pastor Autry Powell Jr. where he held some people hostage for 30 years in Elam No. II Baptist Church in Kellyton. Powell was found guilty by law, but the people found no fault and wanted to stay hostage and continue to hear Pastor Powell preach the good news, the gospel of Jesus Christ, and Powell is still holding them hostage after 30 years while some special members have gone on to be with God on High, Deacon Leroy Tuck, Deacon Jimmy and Minister Spencer Tuck and many others.
Pastor Autry and Lady Lesha Powell were honored last Sunday at Elam II where he has been pastor for 30 years and is still going strong. Preaching the word of God and being strong for his lovely wife, who just lost her mother one day before the celebration. Our hands go up in prayer for the both of them, who still attended the celebration and gave God all the glory and praised Him like always.
I commended Lady Powell. She is a precious strong lady, and we all love her and Pastor Powell, who is my chosen nephew; a wonderful choice! I do praise the Lord for both of them!
The first song of the hour was “I Love to Praise the Lord” by Peace and Goodwill’s choir, and we all praised the Lord before the great speaker, Pastor Bobby Palmore Sr. of First Baptist Church in Roosevelt City, Birmingham, brought the Word of God for us to hear. We heard it loud and clearly.
He preached from I Corinthians 15:58. “Encouragement for the Journey” was his topic, and he truly encouraged me and I believe he did others. I know he did Pastor and Lady Powell.
Salvation is real. Man needs to be saved and hear the gospel. The gospel is more important than the food you eat.
Palmore’s message fit what Powell teaches his members. Palmore spoke very highly of Powell, and anyone who knows Powell knows it was all true. Powell is a true man of God. It was a great service!
Happy birthday to all August babies.
Let’s keep Lady Powell and her family in prayer. It is not easy losing your mother, and we pray for all others who are going through a mourning period.
I thank Mrs. Bessie Burton for a sweet and encouraging compliment. I love her dearly.
