Richville Rundown
Sheila Ward
Hard to believe this is the last column for July! Summer has certainly flown by with school starting back on August 5. Open house is on August 4 with various times for different grades.
Don’t forget tomorrow, Saturday, July 26, at 6:30 p.m. there will be Bingo at the Richville Volunteer Fire Department. So, come join us for a night of fun and fellowship. Cards are $10 for 20 games!
Since they sell concessions, bring your appetite, also. Bingo and the two Boston butt sales are fundraisers for the fire department. Their next Boston butt sale will be Labor Day weekend.
Come join the Historical Society on Sunday, July 27, at 2 p.m. at the Rockford Senior Center. Our speaker will be Jim Phillips, an Alabama historian/speaker/videographer/explorer. His presentation is entitled “Lost, and Some Found, Treasures of 1880s Alabama.”
He also welcomes attendees to bring old U.S. coins, paper currency notes and bottles for free appraisals after his presentation. Door prizes and refreshments will be provided by members. You don’t have to be a member to attend.
Providence Baptist Church is hosting a “Back to School Bash” on Friday, August 1, from 5 to 8 p.m. Kids arrive at 5 p.m. for games and water fun. (Bring your swimsuit and towel.) Parents are welcome to join us at 7 p.m. for dinner and homemade ice cream.
Preregistration is required because we will be giving school supply bags, so we want to make sure we have enough. It is open to all students. The van will pick up in Rockford at the Mapco station at 4:30 p.m. So, text MaLisa at 334-467-7725 if your child will be riding so we can accommodate everyone.
My Bible verse this week continues about strength and courage. Psalm 46:1 reads, “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.”
What encouragement for us when we are discouraged and need strength. This verse reminds us once again that God is with us through thick and thin if we believe on Him. We can put our trust in Him, not to remove the trouble, but to survive it!
God doesn’t promise Christians a carefree life with no problems. He does promise us that He is with us to help us get through those times. But we also need to remember to praise God in the good times, as well as call on Him in trouble.
Be in prayer for the ones that have lost a loved one and that are sick in our community. But also, think about giving someone a call just to say hello; it will make a difference in their day. Many times, when we go out to spread blessings to others, it’s us that gets the blessing.
Organizations in the area, as well as churches, I need your events! If your family has some news or an event to share, please contact me. I would prefer text to 334-414-7147 or emails to wardgrand6@gmail.com, but phone calls will be fine, too. If you don’t get me when you call, be sure to leave a message.
