Special to the News
The Central High School English and Theatre departments collaborated to provide more than 40 students with the opportunity to attend a live performance of William Shakespeare’s “Hamlet” at the Alabama Shakespeare Festival last week.
“Hamlet” is part of the senior curriculum, but various Shakespeare works are read at all grade levels. The performance provided a rare opportunity for students to watch a live performance of a play many have read in class.
Jacob Moon, the ninth and eleventh grade English teacher who coordinated the trip, added, “The goal was to improve understanding and engagement while providing an enjoyable experience that helped foster an appreciation for Shakespeare and for theatre as a discipline.”
This opportunity was made possible for our students at no cost thanks to grant funds. Thank you to Maressa Ware for volunteering to chaperone and sharing pictures.
