A single vehicle crash that occurred at approximately 9:45 a.m. Tuesday, April 29, has claimed the life of a Homestead, Fla., man.
Jesus M. Pita, 54, was fatally injured when the 2023 Peterbilt tractor-trailer that he was driving left the roadway and overturned. Pita was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Leonard N. Hilliard, 29, of Stone Mountain, Ga., a passenger of the Peterbilt, was also injured and transported to Baptist Health Citizens Hospital for treatment.
The crash occurred on Interstate 20 near Mahaffey Road, approximately seven miles west of Oxford city limits, in Talladega County.
Nothing further is available as troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate.
