Special to the News
The J. D. Thompson High School Alumni Association members are busy planning a fun day of activities for May 17, starting with the Chlora K. May Fun Run/Walk-a-Thon.
Registration begins at 7 a.m., and the walk will start at 8 a.m. Fun Run/Walk participants will have the opportunity to walk from 1 to 3 miles, including a Fun Walk for interested attendees. The registration fee is $12 and includes a swag bag.
From 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. you will be able to tour the historic Coosa County Training School, view the exhibits and explore the school’s history.
The Grove food concession will be open serving hot dogs, chips, sodas, and its famous fried fish sandwiches, so come hungry and thirsty. There will be vendors, a DJ playing your favorite music and fun activities for all age groups, including bingo.
We know you enjoyed the singing last year, so “The Gospel Hour of Power” will be back – one hour of powerful worship from various local and gospel guests. This will be an outside event from 11 a.m. – 12 p.m., so please bring your lawn chairs.
The May Day and Walk-a-Thon is a fundraiser to assist with maintenance, program events and restoration of the historic facility, located at 1854 Coosa County Road 93, in Cottage Grove. If you would like more information about the event, contact JoAnn Shealey at 256-794-0987 or Sheryl Borden at 256-625-6076.
