May Day event in Cottage Grove
Special to the News
The J. D. Thompson High School Alumni Association members are busy planning a fun day of activities for May 17, starting with the Chlora K. May Fun Run/Walk-a-Thon.
Registration begins at 7 a.m., and the walk will start at 8 a.m. The registration fee is $12 and includes a swag bag.
From 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. you will be able to tour the historic Coosa County Training School, view the exhibits and explore the school’s history.
The Grove food concession will be open serving hot dogs, chips, sodas, and its famous fried fish sandwiches. There will be vendors, a DJ playing your favorite tunes and fun activities for all age groups, including bingo.
We know everyone enjoyed the singing last year, so the “Hour of Power” will be back, Amen.
The May Day and Walk-a-Thon is a fundraiser to assist with maintenance, program events and restoration of the historic facility. We invite everyone to come to C.C.T.S./J.D. Thompson School, located at 1854 Coosa County Road 93, in Cottage Grove, on Saturday May 17, for a day of fun.
If you would like to be a vendor or need more information, contact JoAnn Shealey at 256-794-0987 or Sheryl Borden at 256-625-6076.
