The Lake Martin Area United Way, which serves Coosa County, is seeking help from individuals and businesses to help make the holidays brighter and spread Christmas cheer this season.
Lake Martin Area United Way has been contacted by eight families from across its service area who need extra help providing Christmas for their children this year. There are 16 children in total, ranging in ages from 1 to 16.
The United Way is asking individuals, families, businesses, Sunday school classes, or other church groups to consider helping them by adopting a family or child and “bringing smiles to the faces of these children this Christmas.”
Those interested can help by adopting a child or family or by making a financial donation.
When adopting a child or family to help this Christmas, the local United Way will provide a list of clothing sizes and gift requests for each child. The person or group does the shopping and then brings the unwrapped gifts to the United Way office by December 18 for United Way to distribute to the families.
For those who prefer to make a financial donation, the United Way will use the funds to purchase the gifts for the children on its list. Monetary donations are tax deductible as a donation to United Way.
Those wishing to make a financial donation can do so by making a check payable to Lake Martin Area United Way and writing “Christmas” in the memo line. Checks can be mailed to P.O. Box 876; Alexander City, Ala. 35011.
Financial donations can also be made online at www.unitedwaylakemartin.org/form/Donate, with donors asked to add “Christmas” to the donor notes, or via Venmo to @LakeMArtinUW, with those asked to note “Christmas” when donating.
For more information or to help, call the Lake Martin Area United Way office at 256-329-3600 or email courtney.layfield@unitedwaylakemartin.org.
