December 7

The Kellyton Christmas Celebration, a FREE event, will be held December 7 from 5-8 p.m. at the Kellyton Civic Complex, located at 145 Church Street, Kellyton. The Christmas Celebration will feature a Gift Shop where vendors will be selling crafts, gifts, candles, and more; a Sweet Shop with homemade fried apple pies, salsa, jellies, jams, pickles, and more; a Kid Zone with face painting, a bounce house, and games, with popcorn and cotton candy being sold in the concession stand; and Candy Cane Lane Cafe with free hot chocolate and coffee, as well as a free hot dog, chips and soda for each guest. Also, bring the kids for a special time as Santa will arrive at 6 p.m. to greet the children! Make plans to attend this year’s event!

The Richville Neighborhood Watch is sponsoring a Chili Cook-Off and bake sale on Saturday, December 7. Winner will receive $100. Participants must have their chili at the fire department by 12 p.m., along with a list of ingredients. Entry fee is $20. Winner will be determined by popular vote and announced at 2 p.m. To sample the chili and vote, tickets are $1 per vote. Multiple tickets may be purchased. If you wish to enter the chili cook-off, or for more information on donating baked goods, contact Pinky Reichert at 205-616-3581 or Ron Garrison at 256-935-0693.

 

December 8

The J.D. Thompson Alumni members are holding “Christmas in the Grove Open House” and hope everyone will join them for an afternoon of old-fashioned Christmas fun. The event will be held December 8 from 1-3 p.m. We are excited that the Highway 22 E Podcast members will be hosting this event. Afternoon activities will include Christmas tree decorating, singing, refreshments, tours of the historical building, and fellowship. The podcast members ask each church to bring a special Christmas ornament for the tree. Join us at the alumni building, located at 1854 County Road 30, in the Cottage Grove community.

 

December 14

The Town of Rockford presents “Winter Wonderland in Grinchville” on Saturday, December 14, along Main Street from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Vendors, food, music, a bounce house, and special guests! The Christmas parade will start at 6 p.m. with lineup beginning at 5 p.m. Contact Town Hall at 256-377-4911 for details to participate in the Walk of Trees, register as an event vendor, or to sign up as a parade participant.

 

December 16

The monthly meeting of the Coosa County Soil and Water Conservation District will be on Monday, December 16, at 11 a.m. at the District Office, located at 226 Coosa County Road 157 in Hanover.

 

December 21

Third Saturday Trade Day in Millerville will be held at the Bibb Graves Community Center on Saturday, December 21, from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Shops open inside will include furniture, glassware, jewelry, baby clothes and items, linens, fabric, florals, Pyrex, Fireking, vintage handbags, lamps, home décor, old signs, collectibles, and much more. Free outdoor vendor setup: no charge for outside setup for vendors, yard sale items, arts and crafts, and swap meet items. For more information call 205-317-7798. Food items and soft drinks will be available.

 

Weekly

The Goodwater Youth Development and Recreational Center is open to the public weekly on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., and practice days for the travel ball team are those same days from 5 to 6 p.m. Cheerleader practice is held on Wednesdays and Fridays. Monthly

Richville Neighborhood Watch will be held the first Thursday of each month at the fire department, 13185 Coosa County Rd. 14, Rockford, 35136. The gathering begins with a potluck meal at 6 p.m., and the meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. Come out and see what is happening in your community.

The Coosa County Historical Society will be opening the Old Rock Jail beginning Sunday, April 7, from 2 to 4. The jail will be open each Sunday in April, May and June except for Mother’s Day and Father’s Day. It will be closed for the months of July and August, opening back up the second Sunday in September until October 13.

Monthly breakfast returns to West Coosa Senior Center! The West Coosa Senior Center in Stewartville will host breakfast on the fourth Saturday of each month from 7-10 a.m. at the center, located at 47 Coosa County Road 70, Sylacauga, 35151 (the old Stewartville School). Breakfast is $6 per plate with choice of ham, bacon, sausage, eggs, gravies, and more! Dine in or call ahead at 256-249-2024 to carry out. Donations appreciated! Breakfast will be served monthly now through October, with it not being held in November or December.

 

Quarterly

The Hanover Community Club and Neighborhood Watch will now hold quarterly gatherings at Andrews Chapel. These quarterly gatherings are held on the third Tuesday of March, June, September, and December at Andrews Chapel Fellowship Hall at 6 p.m. Everyone is cordially invited and encouraged to attend. Y’all come!
