On Saturday, November 30, staff at Staton Correctional Facility noticed a suspicious vehicle on state property.
The vehicle crashed through a gate on state property and fled. ADOC K-9 agents located the vehicle in Prattville, where two female occupants were detained.
Suspect Heather Young was arrested and transported to the Elmore County Jail, where she was charged with promoting prison contraband in the first and second degrees, unlawful possession of a controlled substance and criminal mischief in the second degree.
A package containing contraband was discovered stuck in the perimeter fence at Staton. It was recovered and taken into evidence.
The Alabama Department of Corrections Law Enforcement Services Division investigation is ongoing, and further charges may be pending.
