Equality & NIxburg News
Jennifer Williamson
I am making some progress on the front entry again, although I did run into a hiccup when the polyurethane bubbled up on two trim boards. Could be that I did it too early in the morning with the weather changing, and even though I wiped the boards down there was still some morning moisture. I tried to start after the sun comes up, but was rushing so it wasn’t quite as warm as it should have been. Oh well, sand it down and start again.
Crown molding will be finished this week; still need to run some new wire for the outlets and finish up those sections with drywall. Thinking of hiring out some of the work, but recent work travel requirements have tied up my funds and time, so I just might have to crawl under the house myself and just get it done.
The one thing I have hired out is the installation of the stove pipe, up the 12-foot-high ceiling and 14-foot attic space through the roof. That is a job for a professional. I can’t wait to get it done so I can move on to another room.
Events and activities in the area include:
The Equality Volunteer Fire Department (EVFD) is still looking for more volunteers to support their efforts in keeping us all safe. They need as much involvement as they can get so again, please come and support your community by volunteering your time at a great organization. Also, you are free to join the training on the first and third Mondays at 6:30 p.m. even if just to watch and find out more about what EVFD has going on.
Coosa County Live has karaoke tonight, Friday, October 18, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. While it is not mandatory, you are encouraged to bring a dish of shareable food for our “Potluck,” and if you can afford to drop something into the donation jar for the music, it helps keep the lights on. Coosa Live provides free coffee, iced tea, water, and fresh-popped popcorn, as well as some of the potluck offerings.
Equality Neighborhood Watch is the fourth Thursday, October 24. Last month we were to enjoy a fabulous catfish dinner along with other goodies; however, with the threat of Hurricane Helene as it passed through the state, we took the cautionary route and canceled the meeting. Join us this month to learn more about the community and ways to stay alert and safe.
Equality Volunteer Fire Department sponsored Bingo is on the last Saturday of each month, this month being held on October 26 at 4 p.m. The cards are $1 each, and all proceeds go to support our volunteer fire department, so come out for a fun evening while helping the community.
I depend upon my readers to share with me what is happening within your organizations, churches, neighborhoods, groups, or family to share in next week’s column. Please contact me; leave a voice message or text 256-531-6460 or email at coosacafe@gmail.com.
