October 3-5

Marble Valley VFD announces its 11th Annual Open House and Yard Sale from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. October 3-5 at the fire department, located at 2373 Coosa County Road 5 (also known as Marble Valley Road), Sylacauga, 35151. Come join us for our Open House! There will be a daily drawing, one ticket per person, per day. Cost is free, and you do not have to be present to win. 100% of all yard sale proceeds go to the volunteer fire department. October 4-5

A yard sale will be held October 4-5 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 115 Brown Street in Goodwater. Children’s toy sale and baby stuff will be available. For information or directions call 256-839-5818 and ask for Jennie.

 

October 5

Calling All Chefs! Do you have a passion for pasta and a love for cheese? Join the Ultimate Mac & Cheese Showdown at Cookin’ on the Coosa MacDown on Saturday, October 5, at the Wetumpka Farmers Market. October 11

The Coosa County Cattlemen’s Association will host its Fall Steak Supper at 6:30 p.m. Friday, October 11, at the Cattlemen’s Building on U.S. Highway 231 in Hanover. A cake auction will also be held. Members eat free; guests can pay for a plate.

 

October 17

The J.D. Thompson Alumni Association is hosting Senior Citizens Fall Festival and Octoberfest on Thursday, October 17, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the J.D. Thompson Alumni building. There will be museum tours, music, games, and prizes! There will also be healthy activities, a tasty snack and time to fellowship with others. The building is located at 1854 Coosa County Road 30 in the Cottage Grove community. No charge for the event, but a $5 donation would be appreciated.

 

October 21

The monthly Board meeting for the Coosa County Soil and Water Conservation District will be held on Monday, October 21, at 10 a.m. at the District Office, located at 226 Coosa County Road 157 in Hanover.

 

October 26

Weogufka Center’s Farm Day will be held Saturday, October 26, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Parking: $5. Sausage biscuits and coffee will be available for sale beginning at 7 a.m. in the lunchroom. There will be vendors, Children’s Barn activities, fried apple pies, a car show, pony and wagon rides, music, food vendors, and so much more! Rain or shine event! Call Melvin Palmer at 256-249-8885 to reserve a vendor spot or campsite. Weogufka Center is located at 145 Memorial Loop, Weogufka, 35183.

October 29

Alabama Rivers Alliance and Coosa Riverkeeper present River Reels & Tales: A Night of Film and Discussion about the Coosa River. Short films about the Coosa with Q&A and delicious food and drinks! One such event will be held at the Wetumpka Civic Center from 6-8 p.m. October 29. Others will be held at the Gadsden Museum of Art on October 15 and the Wilsonville Lovelight Farm on October 24. This exciting series of town hall meetings will bring the community together for engaging discussions, along with screenings of short films that spotlight the special people, unique history and current issues impacting the Coosa River. Weekly

The Goodwater Youth Development and Recreational Center is open to the public weekly on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., and practice days for the travel ball team are those same days from 5 to 6 p.m. Cheerleader practice is held on Wednesdays and Fridays. Monthly

Richville Neighborhood Watch will be held the first Thursday of each month at the fire department, 13185 Coosa County Rd. 14, Rockford, 35136. The gathering begins with a potluck meal at 6 p.m., and the meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. Come out and see what is happening in your community.

The Coosa County Historical Society will be opening the Old Rock Jail beginning Sunday, April 7, from 2 to 4. The jail will be open each Sunday in April, May and June except for Mother’s Day and Father’s Day. It will be closed for the months of July and August, opening back up the second Sunday in September until October 13.

Monthly breakfast returns to West Coosa Senior Center! The West Coosa Senior Center in Stewartville will host breakfast on the fourth Saturday of each month from 7-10 a.m. at the center, located at 47 Coosa County Road 70, Sylacauga, 35151 (the old Stewartville School). Breakfast is $6 per plate with choice of ham, bacon, sausage, eggs, gravies, and more! Dine in or call ahead at 256-249-2024 to carry out. Donations appreciated! Breakfast will be served monthly now through October, with it not being held in November or December.

 

Quarterly

The Hanover Community Club and Neighborhood Watch will now hold quarterly gatherings at Andrews Chapel. These quarterly gatherings are held on the third Tuesday of March, June, September, and December at Andrews Chapel Fellowship Hall at 6 p.m. Everyone is cordially invited and encouraged to attend. Y’all come!
