The Buzz
Buzzy the Buzzard
I’ve been perched up watching the town folly lately. The new one-block, one-way street. With parallel parking on the left, facing away from any businesses.
How many people learned to parallel park on the left when they were teenagers? And they expect a town full of seniors to learn it now?
In a month, I think those parking places have been used twice. I have been looking for oil, water, trash, any signs of use, and think the whole parking thing was a waste of paint. Black and white paint, since they originally had ten small spaces and cut it down to five.
And one-way? If you watch, like I have, you will see one or two cars an hour ignore the new signs and head east toward Highway 231. Prominent citizens, business people, and just anybody.
Meanwhile, the four-way stop is more dangerous than ever. No curb in the middle – faster traffic. The crosswalks are good, but you have to stop further back and can’t see around the courthouse. The courthouse isn’t moving.
Additional crosswalks on Main Street would be a good idea; adding one of those “stop for pedestrians” signs in the middle of the road would also alert people passing through.
I’m not a traffic engineer, but obviously the town needs some better advice. From somewhere.
I care.
Your eye in the sky, love,
Buzzy
