Equality & Nixburg News
Jennifer Williamson
Equality Methodist Church is starting a new ministry. Drive Through Prayer began this week and will continue every Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the church.
If you have a prayer need you can drive up to the church, stay in your car, and someone will come out and pray with and for you. No need is too big or too small for them to cover in their prayers.
After some conversations with a few Equality residents, and my husband, I have decided to take the risk and expand the store. The part of the building that was the performing arts center will be divided up between the quilting group and office, and the other half will be the grocer extension of Jenny’s General.
I am looking into purchasing a freezer and cooler from a recently closed business in Wetumpka to hold frozen and fresh food products. As demand increases Jenny’s General will carry fresh produce, as well.
If there is enough customer support, we will add cheese and meat, but so far, the requests have been bread, milk and eggs at competitive prices.
It is a risk, but I believe Equality is worth it and praying it works out and I can hire some locals to work in the store.
Have you noticed the purchase of the little business building in Nixburg and all the cleanup being done? Do you have the scoop on it you want to share? Perhaps a new business being opened soon?
If you know, please share because you know I am all about supporting local small business!
Community activities that are available in Equality and Nixburg area:
- The Equality quilting group meets every Monday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Jenny’s General Store. We do more than quilt; some embroider, crochet and other needle arts. And yes, we still meet every week!
- Elaine Rutledge of Nixburg hosts Rummikub at the Alexander City Senior Center in the Sportplex every Friday starting at 10 a.m.
- Equality Neighborhood Watch meeting on the fourth Thursday of every month.
- Equality Volunteer Fire Department Fundraiser on the first Saturday of every month.
I depend upon my readers to share with me what is happening within your organizations, churches, neighborhoods, groups, or family to share in next week’s column. Please contact me; leave a voice message or text 256-794-3801 or email at coosacafe@gmail.com.
