A vehicle crash ultimately led to the arrest of a Hanceville man who has been residing in the country illegally, according to reports from the Sheriff’s Office.
On Sunday, Deputy Payton responded to a vehicle wreck on U.S. Highway 280. Prior to that he had received a call of a reckless driver traveling west on Highway 280.
Chief Deputy Scott Hammond reported that when Payton arrived on the scene he identified the driver. While speaking with him, Payton reportedly detected an odor of alcohol.
Hammond said that, per Payton’s report, the driver demonstrated multiple signs of intoxication and had an open container in his vehicle.
The same day, September 13, 22-year-old Arnoldo Arevalo Franco was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and reckless driving.
Following his arrest, Hammond reported that Franco is being held at the Coosa County Jail until ICE, or U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, agents can pick him up. As of press time Franco remained in custody at the County Jail.
