The Coosa County Extension Office, in partnership with the Goodwater Youth Development Center under direction of Sharonna Hayes, hosted the second annual Coosa Spring Wellness Event.
On March 26 and 27, more than 100 attendees and vendors participated at the Rockford Event Center and the Goodwater Youth Development Center.
The event featured the Alabama A&M University Extension’s 36-foot interactive nutrition RV. This year attendees of all ages enjoyed the RV’s station bike which they pedaled to make bubbles.
Kade L., who loves basketball, took the prize for being the event’s first attendee to participate in all of the RV’s interactive activities, including corn hole toss, bubble bike and the hula hoop.
Event vendors representing various organizations and businesses that serve Coosa County provided attendees with health wise information relating to both personal and environmental health.
Accordia Health provided participants with free blood pressure screenings and consults for the results. The AltaPointe Health team, led by Patrica Self, provided additional information and mental heath wellness information.
In the spirit of getting active and moving more, event attendees of all ages also had the opportunity to participate in relay races, led by Sharonna Hayes, and bingo, led by Latawn Taylor, with door prizes for winners. The Goodwater Silver Steppers club also led attendees in fun workout dance routines.
Event staff would like to extend a special thank you to Sheriff Michael Howell for the display of the new hybrid patrol SUV.
Thank you, as well, to the event volunteers and vendors, including Rockford Mayor Scott White for facility usage, Alabama All Kids, Alabama Comprehensive Cancer Control Coalition, Alabama One Credit Union, Major Taxes, Alabama Department of Human Resources, Coosa River Keepers, SAFE House of Sylacauga, AltaPointe and ACCORDIA Health, PT Solution Physical Therapy, Extension EFNEP, Lee Boys BBQ, Triple R Cafe, Coosa Valley Medical, and Ivy Creek Home Health.
